I'm going into my sophmore year GSU and I would say first the dorms at GSU are not the greatest. To me the girls dorms are fine. Jones is junk, Wheatly is too, but everything else is good and there are 8 other girls dorms. Campus life is always entertaining. Something is going on at GSU good or bad. The school is growing I saw a huge increase in the enrollment from my first semester to the second. Plus I worked in the admissions office (I looked at each and every appilcant) and I saw an even larger increase for this fall. We also have a new president and I personally spoke to him (he is a go getter). From talking to him and following the news on GSU, that proves to me he is starting to get the job done there(I don't know about you but I want my school to be known for success when I graduate not only for a job but personal pride). GSU is constantly growing with new buildings like the new dorms for the upperclassmen, the new arena they are starting to build, the plans they have for the music building ( Dunbar Hall), they built a new place for the radio station, and the Amry & Navy buildings have been renovated . GSU is progressing but she has a long way to go. Academically some of the people are behind I am sometimes shocked at the degree of the students, but GSU will improve that with starting next fall a higher standard that will make GSU harder to get into than its neighbor Louisiana Tech. I believe they are setting a higher standard of a 3.0 or higher from high school and the ACT will be set to like 20 or something I'm not exactly sure what it is.
Personally as a rapidly progressing individual I see GSU as opportunity to take all that others are leaving. My professors are great they are teaching not to be better than the other black schools but are forcing me to compare myself to the students of the Ivy league schools and compete on that level. I also believe that it does not matter what school you go to, what matters is what you take from it.
