How to Create Your Avatar
A lot of people seem to have trouble with this, so here's a step by step to make your avatar.
Step One - Sign in and go to your profile page
Click the link at the top of the page to go to your account settings. Now, scroll to the bottom of the profile page until you get to avatar settings.
Upload your Pic
Now, you have to decide whether you want to upload your picture or get it from off the web somewhere. It is much easier to do if it is saved on your computer. Simply go to browse and select the file. Your file will be copied to HBCU-Central and saved there.
Link to your Pic
You can also find a picture somewhere on the Web and use that, or use a hosting service like Imagestation.com for your own pics. To use a picture on the web, find the picture that you want. Right click on it. It will show a menu like this:
Click Properties. You will see something like this:
The link displayed after Address is the file name. Highlight it, right click, and copy. IMPORTANT: Make sure you get the whole filename! Scroll down when you are highlighting, because if the file name is long it won't show the whole thing all at once. If you don't your link won't work.
See how I had to scroll down to get the whole thing? A lot of people get thrown off there and can't figure out why they get a broken link (that annoying red X that shows up when the file doesn't exist.)
Go back to profile, go to upload Avatar from URL, right click, and paste. Now it will be copied and saved at HBCU-Central.
I don't recommend using the off-site remote link, because this actually loads it from whereever the source is, every time. So if there's a picture on MSN and you remote link from it, if the picture changes or is deleted, it will stop showing up on your avatar. Plus a lot of domains have software to stop remote linking. Copy and save to your hard drive.
Making a Signature
You make a signature the same way you post in the forum, using colors and images. The only difference is if you want to use an image there, it MUST be remote linked. Which means find a place to host it, or get an account on image station. Use the same process as above to get the file address (rightclick, properties, copy address) and then hit alt-P, paste the address, hit alt-P again. Voila you're done.
Troubleshooting
Why do I get a red X when I try to post a picture?
a. You have the wrong filename. Check it.
b. You are remote linking and the picture has been moved or changed. Make sure it is still there.
Why can't I upload my image from my hard drive?
a. It is too big. Go to MS Photo Editor or other editing software and crop your picture.
b. It is not the right format. Use a .jpg file or .gif file, preferably jpg.

Ok Im New To This Entire Hbcu Connect Thing So I Need Tons Of Help.i Thought I Was Registered.then Allowed To Log In With That And See This Forum Stuff But I Cant Figure Out Why It Wont Allow Me To Edit My Profile.is There Another Log In Process I Missed Here?please Help..thanx
