Default Your First Ride

OK, people. I know you all like going down memory lane. I created this post so people can tell everyone about the very first ride they had. What was good about it; what was bad about it; was it worth it; etc...

It could either be the first car you drove (*usually your parents car*) ... or BETTER YET, the first car you bought.

I think people would like to hear other people's FIRST car experience.

Default Re: Your First Ride

OK, I'll go first:

My first car I bought was a 1999 Chevy Malibu (*white*). This was not the car of my choice though. I came to this choice based on a few factors:

1.) My first car I liked was the Mitsubishi Eclipse. I actually went to the dealership looking at them, but I had no driver's license to test drive them back then. My attitude towards getting that was dashed by a couple of my friends stating,"That's a chick car. Only chicks buy that car." Well there goes getting the Eclipse.

2.)I then started looking at the Mitsubishi 3000GT. Then I looked at the price tag, and instantly stopped looking at the 3000GT. LOL!

3.) So now, I'm 3 weeks into it and still no car. I was bumming rides to work, taking the bus, riding my bike, walking sometimes. All this in business attire sometimes. So now my eyes were on the Infiniti G20. It was like the cheapest line they had and looked decent. The only problem was that the dealership was on the other side of town. So I promptly grabbed my bike and started truckin it (*more than 20 miles*), determined to not leave the dealership without a car. Wellllllllllllll, 2 miles into it ... it started raining. I thought nothing of it and kept pushing only to be met by more, heavier rain. I'm already like 5 miles into it; i wasn't planning on turning around. I was that determined. So I'm trucking it in the pouring rain the whole time ... 20 miles later, I'm at the dealership. They were nice and offered me coffee and hot chocolate, etc. then when it came down to it, I didn't have enough credit and needed a co-signer. Granted, I just graduated from college, got a nice 50,000/yr job and still could not buy a car on my own. I was disappointed because the people I knew who would possibly help me, had worse credit than imaginable. So, as I looked out the dealership window, into the pouring "it's-going-to-rain-all-day, I'm-going-to-have-to-truck-it-again-back-home" weather, I called up one of my co-workers to come pick me up. Yeah, he was laughing at me, but man, i just wanted a car.

4.) Ok, so now it's getting ridiculous. Some stranger saw me walking in the hot sun in my suit and took pity on me and offered me a ride. So now I know I need a car. So one day, I was walking as usual and I walk past this Chevy dealership. I was like, "bump this", and made my way to the nearest sales person that would talk to me. I said, "Look, I just got into town, I got a job at so-and-so, I make good money, I have no credit, I need a car, and I don't want a co-signer. What can you do for me?". Sensing the eagerness in my eyes, I was floating bait in the water. Yeah, I came out of there with a car, but they got me on the cost and monthly payments. Right now, if I was making the same payments, I could be driving a BMW or Mercedes as much as they charged me ... and with 2G's down. I was hurt, but hey, I needed a car.

So that is how i came away with my first car, 1999 Chevy Malibu. It was a good ride. No complaints about it. I eventually turned it back in (*it was a lease*) and got a Honda Accord.

Default Re: Your First Ride

Well, since I am a "chick" I guess it is okay that my first car was a used 1990 MITSUBISIHI Mirage. However, I didn't get it (my first car) until I was like 20 or 21.

The way I got it was my dad and I went to a local Toyota Dealership looking for something used (Broke family, needed something cheap with a SMALL down payment, i.e /$500 or LESS!). Anyway, I had a little bit of credit, but not significant enough to purchase a vehicle without either a higher down payment or to have a cosigner.

Well, my dad's credit was shot all to h*!@, he was broke, and at the time, my only source of income was from my little full time job at McDonald's. Therefore, we decided to get creative and use my sister's credit card (which she, by the way, was able to obtain WITHOUT A JOB, simply for being enrolled in college) and get a $1000 cash advance off it for the down payment/ no cosigner deal. It worked and I got the car.

Like a month later, I had to replace the front axels on the car. I got that fixed. Then, I'll say it was about atleast three more months later when my battery died on me at the laundromat. I mean, I didn't even have the car for a full year without it giving all kinds of drama.

But that was my first car. I had it for a while (about 6 years) before the motor went out on it. I finally gave it to a junk yard.

Poor Baby! lol At least you didn't get a chick's car. lol

My first car was a 88' Toyota Cressida and I loved that car! I bought the most expensive tires for it and put a bad sound system in it. But when I turned the radio on sometimes the car would shut off. If I set off the alarm the car wouldn't start, but I loved that car. It continued to give me more problems so I sold it to the junkyard for $30. Then I got an 87' Toyota Cressida but I didn't like this one as much.

PRAISE THE LORD!!!

My first ride was a white Box Buick (I think it was a '90.) It had maroon "pleather" (plastic-leather) interior. I loved the fact that I could turn the car on and then take my keys out while the car was still running and drive around with my key in my pocket. My car didn't start up for everybody, or would start up and quit. I felt special because my car didn't do that for me. The weirdest thing that happened was that one day me and my sister was sitting in my car and the radio came on. We was trippin. So, since that day on I named my car "Christine!!!" I didn't have her for long, but I will never forget her.

Man ya'll got some sad stories ...20 miles to rejection, downgrading instead of upgrading, demon possessed cars...

Well my first ride wasn't really mine, it was my family's 1985 Ford E-150 Full Conversion VAN! lol My brother and I shared it our first 2 years in college and it was great...until the problems started. The driver side window motor went dead. You had to put oil in it every week. The engine was dying. The reclining mechanism broke so you had to lean into the steering wheel while you drived and if you pressed the gas too hard, you went flying back. Good times! Good times! lol

But MY first ride is my 1999 Ford Explorer, L'Nesha! I said in high school that as soon as I got a job, I was getting an Explorer and that's what I did! I knew nothing about cars at the time and my pops sent me out to the wolves, "Let me know when you find what you want and we'll get it." ...so after I found Nesha I test drove her and have had her ever since! I bought her in 2000 with like 27K miles on her and have a little less than 190,000.(She's seen every inch of I-95 from Philly to Miami ) We're headed to 200,000 and beyond! We've had a few problems here and there but we've overcome them.
