Marching 100???
I am 17 years old, and I have wanted to be a part of the FAMU Marching 100 since.........forever!!!! Now, I am getting cold feet and don't really know if I can handle the membership initiations that a band member must go through  . I want to be a part of the band soooo band. I have discussed with both of my band directors (FAMU Marching 100 Alumni) about getting into the band, and the requirements it takes to stay in the band. I also think that since they have made cuts on the woodwinds, that I won't have a good chance. I have been the Clarinet section leader for 3 years, and I am good, but I don't think I will be as good as other people that go there. I have been told several times that have a lot of talent, but for some reason, I don't think I will live up to the standards of the band. That's why I am scared.
What do y'all think I should do???

Believe in your self. I deal with the same situations myself, but look at it this way:
If someone else see it in you, then start believing in yourself and build your confidence, but don't get too cocky.

^^^Thanks, I feel ya,I'm just worried about getting and keeping the scholarship, because other than that, I'ma have 2 go to the enemies! (BCC) My mommy wants me to go to BCC, because I can get full scholarship through academics there, but I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna go to FAMU, so that's my issue.
About being Cocky....I see no point in cocky, because u can't be the best at everything, sumone's gonna be better than u at something, soooo there's no point  . But, I'm not a cocky person, I personally don't like cocky people, but that's just me.......

That type of thinking is a turn off to me. I'm gonna be real with you shawty. DON'T COUNT YOURSELF OUT NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. You're a student leader in your own high school program right? So apparently you're doing something right. That's one of the things that make the 100 special. 95% of the 100 are musicians who were student leaders at their repsective high schools. Whether it were being drum major, section leader, band president/vice pres., secretary we've all had some experience in leadership positions. Now, you don't have to be the greatest musician (but it does help  ). I wasn't the greatest trombone player. I was only a member of my District Honor Band (never made it pass the 2nd round of my all state audition) but I had great potential and I was willing to work. Our Music Department likes to see kids with type of mentality. Just hang in there, you'll be fine. Oh Yeah, DON'T GO TO BCC :P

^^Well...I definately don't wanna go to B-CC, that's for sure, I am destined to be a part of the MArching 100, if it's the last thing I do! The only real problem there is the money issue. Other than that, I do strive to do the best of my ability to get there. I spend a lot of time during school hours, working on my playing, and I am actually forced by my band director to isolate myself in the instrument room, and play until I can't play anymore, or until I have to leave. When I'm at home, I spend a lot of time perfecting ehat I have learned. My main problem comes in when I think of how I learned to play the clarinet.
I learned to play the clarinet on my own (basically), at the end of my ninth grade year. I decided that if I wanted to get any better, then I would have to improve my playing. I never really learned how to read the rhythm patterns, or anything, but I started back from the beginning and broke everything back down (from the Standard of Excellence book). From there, I worked on my technic and playing;finally I got the hang of it, and become one of the top players in the band.
That's why I'm scared for myself in FAMU's band. I have faith, but I wanna get a scholarship and KEEP IT.

well if you did that then you have more than what it takes to be in this band. Just motivate yourself to be better and it will come in time. And as long as you keep your grades up then you'll do fine. You have to find a balance between school and band or else you'll slip but other than that you have no worries. :-D
