Default Your Outlook on Today's BLACK Church

Since its Sunday, and church is on my mind, I going to talk about it. What is you all outlook on today’s Black Church? While looking for a church while in school, I was looking for a church that was up with modern times, a church that’s positive, a church were you can get a good message and music, but lately it seems it hard to find that. While visiting a few churches in the QC, I found a lot of “weird” things. Preachers tell the youth that if they listen to rap music “their going to hell”. A lot of churches were basically a fashion show, some had people having “over the top” spiritual outburst falling in the floor and passed out for the entire message, some churches had people get out their seats and run laps around the pool pit. What really got me was when I saw people throwing money at the feet of the preacher. Maybe its me, I’m just a laid back person, so I expect the place I go to hear the word to be the same…

What you all think?

Lol...I don't know why, but when I read this I started cracking up. I know exactly what you mean. Like, everytime I watch TV I see stuff like that. People falling all out and screaming and stuff for no apparent reason. But trying to find a church in Hampton is so hard. I have the chapel, where the chaplain tries too hard to reach out to us. I feel if he were more himself and stopped trying to speak to us through what he thinks is our language, he would be more effective. I remember over the summer, people pretended to catch the Holy Spirit. Why? I have no clue, but that is not something to be playing with.

On the other hand, there is a church that a lot of the students attend. My only problem with this church is...it's so much different than what I am used to at home. I know it's not going to be the exact same, but one day I went there and these people were just acting so crazy. Like the praise team said Good evening and people went crazy. It seemed so scripted...I don't know. I am just glad to be back at home so I can attend my home church.

I don't bother with these new churches... it's not the same as it was when I was growing up. I grew up in the church, and back then things were much more serious and heart felt.

The churches today are more so of a "BUSINESS" more than the House of God. Which is why I call it "The House of Heathens" ... don't get me wrong cuz I'm sure there are a few good churches out there, but sorry my trust has run low.

I see preachers all the time telling others of how many cars they got, their new houses on the islands, and the boas they about to buy... but when you question it, it's all in the name of the Lord, or all by the grace of God.

Now on a whole other note, I was informed that some of the Best of the Worste frequent "The House". Everyone that was at the clubs, The Hookers, The Ho's, The Pimps and Playas, The Business Men, Older Womens lookin for a good young man  , future friends and business partners and life partners. Church has become an even greater meeting place for reasons good and bad.
