I'm still in high school; I go to Cass Tech, which is supposed to be one of the best public schools in the nation. Well, recently my principal told my AP english teacher that we are not allowed to read No Disrespect by Sister Souljah. Now our class is protesting because the reason we supposedly shouldnt be reading the book is it hasa objectionable material and it is not on the approved reading list. However The Coldest Winter Ever, Flyy Girl, Every Tongue Got to Confess...etc are on the list. Also our parents signed the syllabus saying we could read the book

If your parents are made aware of what you are reading then you should be able to read the book. But the school also has rules to follow. They may not allow you to read books with such content.

I'm sure you're mature enough to handle the subject matter in those books but my question is...why would you need to read those books in AP English?...I'm in AP English...my teacher doesn't consider most modern black books to be real literature (Zane is NOT real literature lol)...they're okay to read for your own personal leisure though...

Yall lucky my school won't even allow us to bring in flyy girl, sistah souljah, maya angelou, and a lot of other black arthurs in the school because they have to many obscene chapters. Please.

well knowning how sista souljah material can get raw although i havent read the book yet i dont think it should be allowed in the highschool reading ciriculum in classes thats on a whats right is right and whats wrong is wrong standard but FOR ME MY SELF PERSONaLLY i would say go right ahead cuz sista souljah is tellin it all and whether u hear that stuff in school or in the streets we gonna hear or see or even experience it one time or another
