I'm a freshman headed to school and i work 20hrs a week so I'm wondering do I need to keep my job or focus solely on my GPA. However, I do need Money!
What are some jobs you guys have?
Also, if you guys don't have a job, are you a entrepreneur? Or what have other kids done on your campuses to make money. (Cutting Hair? Selling Drugs? Selling Class Notes?)
Focus on your GPA and let it make money for you. If you keep a high GPA you can apply for a lot of scholarships and academic contest and bank the money (depending on the terms of the scholarship). If your tuition is paid for the rest would be overage.
Otherwise your "hustle" depends on what college campus you will be on. You got to observe who is offering what on campus and then you either: offer something different or offer the better version/better deal than what is currently offered.
Whatever it is keep it legal-selling cds, dvds, and dope is a quick way to get a federal charge. If you are receiving financial assistance from the government (check your fafsa) and you are charged with a drug offense or a federal offense, you become ineligible for financial assistance for the rest of your life. I know selling bootleg cds and dvds may seem like a low-end crime but I just finished an intern with the Federal Defense Program and the last case I worked on involved defending a guy charged with selling bootleg dvds out of his car. If you have any priors (misdeamenors, ordinance violations, felonies etc) all those "points" add up in determining imprisonment time. Dude was looking at ten years because of his history.
Honestly, if you have to work, I would do an internship or CO-OP in my field of study. It will help to build your resume. In addition, it will allow you to apply classroom theories in a professional environment.

Great idea!
And be sure to also check out campus organizations that pay, such as the Yearbook Staff, Newspaper Staff, Resident Assistant, etc.

Well, there is nothing wrong with you working a part-time job while you are in college. Just don't work full-time if you are enrolled in school full-time. There are plenty of people who work while in school. I feel keeping a part-time job keeps young black men out of a bunch of mess! Anyway, if you don't want to work and just focus on studying, you can receive a refund check that could cover most expenses. Most colleges/universities give back huge refunds. I know I used to receive $2000-3000 dollar refund checks per semester, but the only catch is that you have to pay those loans back after graduation! LOL

Exactly!
Folk used to get caught up with that when I was in school too. The money may look good at the moment but you gotta think about long term. What do you need a "refund" for if you have to pay it back after your deferral period ends? No thanks!
You gotta watch out for those "refunds" and the "Free Stuff" when you fill out a credit card application. Yeah it's free but what's gonna happen when you can't pay those bills on time?
