Just out of curiosity are or were you Pre-Med?

I started out in pre-med but I changed majors, and I have a degree in something else. I would also like to add, that you do not have to necessarily major in Biology or Chemistry to go to medical school. In fact, medical schools tend to choose people with diverse majors. There are some people who have majored in English and have been accepted into medical school. You can major in anything and just take the pre-med curriculum along with your major. Every college has a pre-med curriculum. I suggest that you find whatever you like and major in it, and also take the pre-med classes. People that have diverse majors tend to stand out amongst other applicants, because there are so many people who apply with Biology/Chemistry majors. Also, by you majoring in something such as English, Art, or Political Science you will have a higher GPA. When people take all of those Biology and Chemistry classes, sometimes their GPA's drop if they make a bad grade. With something like an Art major, for example, you could easily balance your grades out because the classes will be easier.
Also, medical schools look at applicants who are heavily involved on their campus. You should look into running for student body president and other big offices that show your leadership skills. If you decide to join clubs, make sure you run for a office in that club. Also, during the summers when you are out of school look into doing a Study Abroad program. A lot of the study abroad programs can be used for college credit. That way you can have a vacation out of the country and actually earn college credit at the same time. That will look good on your record for medical school. Also, during the summer you could participate in research studies. There are a lot of research programs you can participate in. If you present a research paper at a conference, that will look good on your record for medical school also. Tougaloo College pairs up with a lot of hospitals, companies, and colleges for research opportunities. A lot of the students at Tougaloo, use those research programs for income. I think they even receive stipends. That is why I suggest for you to strongly look into Tougaloo if you are thinking about medical school. There are people from all over the country that come to Tougaloo just for that very reason. I'm sure there are people from where you are from that are attending school at Tougaloo. Tougaloo has a high percentage rate for students being accepted into medical school. They have a good reputation amongst medical schools. If they see that you are a Tougaloo graduate, your foot is in the door for acceptance at most medical schools across the country. That is a given! Tougaloo's website is
