Default What is housing like @ NCCU and Elizabeth City State?

I'm going to be a transfer student and I'm currently trying to find out more info about the residential life of these 2 schools. I'm interested in knowing the dorm size (do they have single occupancy rooms), ac, private bathrooms, etc. Also, I'm 23 yrs old and was really wondering if I'd be looked at funny because of my age (as in, am I too old to be [newly] living on campus?)

I'm leaning more toward Central than ECSU, but I haven't made a final decision. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

As a transfer and older student you will have access to the best dormitories on campus; provided you have good grades. If not, our dorms for upperclassmen are still pretty good.

You want to get your housing application in early so you can move into

Privatized

New Residence Hall 1 or 2; New Baynes; McLean; for Spring 05 Annie Day Shepard, or Rush Hall.

Plus Durham is a college town, so there are plenty of apartments everywhere!

edited to say: i've been on the website and i'm not sure if its the site or my computer, but i can't get any real info (like floorplans etc.) about any of the other dorms (only the new one).

anyways, how long have u been going there? and are u liking it so far?

I went there for undergrad and masters, so we lived in the older dorms. McLean Residence Hall was just renovated in 2002.

New Residence Halls (I and II) had some mold problems in 2003 and they gutted the entire thing and rebuilt the inside. Everything in that dormitory is brand new (2004), and they are four-bedroom in-line suites, doubles, and singles depending on what you are willing to pay for. Each suite has a bathroom, and a living room area.

In 2005, a renovated Annie Day Shepard will re-open. It was the best dormitory on campus when I was in school in terms of location and personal freedoms (it was the honors dorm). It will be a four bedroom suite dorm as well. Students who currently live in Latham Hall will be moved into there and it will most likely be used as an athletics dorm next fall.

New Baynes Dormitory will open in January 2005 (hopefully); it will be filled with freshmen girls from Eagleson Hall which is closing for renovation.

You can see most of those dorms at our bond site:

http://www.nccu.edu/bond/

We do have about 200 additional students living in the Millenium Hotel until new Baynes is completed. That may seem bad, but most of the students there love it, as they have a TV provided, private bathrooms, and room service. In addition they have FULL sized beds.

Now there will be some students who will be stuck with Old Baynes, Old Graduate Housing and maybe even Chidley Hall (males); that's why it's important to get your forms in early this year.

I now work on campus, and I enjoyed it as an undergrad and I love seeing students now. Just remember to surround yourself with good people and remember, since you're an older student to be patient with younger student and you'll be just fine.

EAGLE PRIDE!!!

I really appreciate your help. How early do you think someone needs to send off for the housing application? (btw I'm still in in step 1 (sending off the admission application) but honestly I don't send why I wouldn't get accepted, I'm not a bad student, but we'll see)

I too find the information very helpful because I'm truly interested in attending Central. I just enjoy hearing the students that already attend saying how they like the campus and staying on campus. I live in Philly and will be staying on campus for the first time in my life. I'm also at an older age then you would think would want to do it but I never have.
Again thanks

Forgive me for taking so long to respond,

As soon as you are accepted, you should send in your housing application.

Admission doesn't take long. By far your longest process will be with Financial Aid, so make sure you leave 3 - 8 weeks to complete the process. If you do not your refund will be delayed.

In addition, as an older student, the Triangle is a more attractive area to go to school. We have a sizable black professional/graduate student population and there is always something being marketed towards people in the 21 - 27 y/o age group.
