Heey whats up yawl I love writing poetry and novels and what not im just curious are their any other writers out there as well.


Does anyone else adore spoken word as much as me just wondering





I write poems mostly romantic like love or about life or about issues Im multi talented in that department of writing poetry


Im definitely both a slam and a head poet I can come from both ways and I can also write them

Is there anyone else out there that has a knack for writing?

hold my hand
the road is steep from here
we've slipped so far into the valley between peaks
all we can see is our future looming large and frightening ahead of us
our past distant and unfelt behind us
we stumbled out of the womb of greatness
our elders too bitter from our lack of gratitude
to tell us our story
we have to learn it from textbooks
that make us look like toys
action figures placed strategically behind lunch counters
and in front of fire hoses
to amuse a power still larger than our own
and it's funny
how i love my people so much
thinking about them fills me up
fills me almost to capacity
but i can't seem to get full
can't seem to get past the fact we no longer raise our fists in protest
we wrap them around pistols
as if our ancestors didn't have enough to worry about


that's from a piece i slammed with earlier in april at the international teen poetry slam festival Brave New Voices called "my people".

that's weird, my name is meilani. yea, most folks i know have a poem on the topic, which is proof (in my opinion) that i'm not just imagining that there's a problem. anyway, i've been writing poetry since 7th grade, so 5 years. i've only been performing/competing for the last two and a half years or so.
